  • Abstract
Acid titration was performed to probe the acid buffering capacity of four types of typical soils from the Three Gorges Reservoir Region. The acid buffering capacity of soil was also applied to calculate the critical load for acid rain. The results indicated that the higher the pH value and CEC content of the soil, the greater the basic ions and acid buffering capacity of the soil would be.The critical load for acid rain was obviously different for four types of typical soils from the Three Gorges Reservoir Region. The order of the critical load for acid rain was red-brown purplish soil>red purplish soil>grey-brown purplish soil>yellow soil. The sensitivity of red-brown purplish soil to acid was much less than that of other three soils.
